My Creatine Story (and Why I Made My Own Formula)

By Meagan Langston

I still remember the very first time I heard about creatine. I was sitting in class and overheard a group of boys talking about it. My immediate thought? “Oh my gosh, they’re taking steroids!”

It’s comical to think about it now, but at the time, creatine seemed like something reserved for “hardcore athletes”, and definitely only for guys. Or so I thought, so I pushed it out of my mind, and even years later, I still carried the belief that creatine wasn’t meant for women like me.

Fast forward a few years, and my husband kept nudging me: “You should really consider taking creatine.” I brushed it off at first, but eventually, I got curious enough to dig into the research myself. And honestly? I was blown away and really impressed. Babe- You were right. Here is my public apology ;)

So in case you weren’t catching on, creatine was indeed not a steroid,  it is actually one of the most well-researched, effective, and safe supplements available. And in my research I really found it frustrating that I wasn't alone in this belief actually there was almost no information that creatine was meant for women as well. It  frustrated me to realize how underserved women were in this conversation. Study after study showed how beneficial creatine could be not just for building muscle, but also for energy, metabolism, brain health, and long-term resilience for our health. Meaning, now only now do we reap the benefits but we are also building resilience for our future.

Yet hardly anyone is talking about it for women.

When I finally started taking creatine, I noticed changes quickly. It became easier to reach my aesthetic goals. I felt like I was starting to see real changes in my aesthetics, I felt stronger, and saw more definition from my workouts. I felt sharper at work, more focused, clear-headed, and energized. And even though I can’t feel it day-to-day, I get giddy knowing the resilience I’m building for my future: preserving muscle as I age and protecting against cognitive decline.

The more I learned, the more passionate I became. I discovered how beneficial betaine could be for enhancing creatine absorption, and how taurine could help reduce the “creatine bloat” many people experience. That’s when I decided to take the leap and create a formula I would actually love to take daily: a clean, simple, effective powder designed with women in mind. That’s how Empower Formulas Creatine was born.

One thing I want everyone to know is that creatine isn’t an overnight supplement. It takes about 30–60 days to notice benefits because your body’s creatine stores need time to fully saturate your muscles and brain tissue. Think of it like filling up a gas tank  once it’s topped off, that’s when you start to feel the difference. And it does need to be taken daily to keep those stores full. Skip too many days, and your levels dip back down  which means you lose the consistent energy, strength, and focus creatine provides.

I went from thinking creatine was a steroids to only a “guy thing” to realizing it’s one of the most powerful wellness tools for women. After experiencing the benefits myself and seeing how overlooked this space was, I knew I had to create something better. Empower Formulas Creatine is the formula I wish I had years ago  clean, intentional, and designed for women who want to fuel their body, their mind, and their future.
